Reflections

On Wednesday morning, we completed the necessary paperwork on behalf of the eligible clients and filed the expunction petitions with the courts. After the last petition was filed, our group gathered in a circle to reflect on the events of the past few days. We discussed the difference we felt we had made in the clients’ lives, as well as the difference they had made in ours.

Final Thoughts

After meeting with clients and reviewing criminal records to determine eligibility on the first two days of the Spring Break Expunction Clinic, UNC law students spent their last day in Wilmington filing petitions for expunction. This involved meeting with clients to attach affidavits if needed, double-checking criminal records for eligibility, and accurately filling out the proper forms so that the records of clients who are eligible can be expunged.

It Takes a Village...

On Tuesday, March 12, our pro bono group spent all day meeting with clients at the New Hanover County Public Library in downtown Wilmington. The day was a huge success. As a result of all the hard work of the pro bono students and the fantastic attorneys who volunteered to help with the clinic, we were able to assist more clients with their unmet legal needs than in any previous Expunction Clinic.

An Evening with LINC

After an afternoon facilitating an expunction clinic at the New Hanover library, the pro bono group spent the rest of the day at the local community organization Leading Into New Communities, LINC. As an organization that provides transitional housing and case management services for formerly incarcerated individuals, LINC is making a huge impact in New Hanover County.
