Cherokee Trip Final Reflections – Belal Elrahal – Tribal Council

I’d like to reflect briefly on the “special field trip” Judge Saunooke led a few of the students on to witness the Tribal Council meeting. After a morning of meeting with clients and working at the courthouse, a few of us were afforded the opportunity to accompany the Judge to the Tribal Council Meeting, where they were convened in their normal capacity.

As soon as the pleasantries passed and we were in our interview room, it was as if we were lifelong acquaintances.

While the training we went through the week before the trip was very helpful, there were a number of things it did not prepare me for. We discussed cross-cultural interviews, professional responsibility, and will construction. Celia explained the different documents we would be able to provide, and she skillfully answered our nit-picky law student questions.
