During the March 16th, 2011 meeting, SBA purchased three Digital Flip MinoHD 2 Hour Digital Camcorders for $214.97. These cameras were purchased by S. David Brown, SBA President, for use by participants in making videos for the SBA Law Revue. You can watch the videos and performances from the 2011 SBA Law Revue on our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/unclawrevue.
The cameras are for student groups (and students) to use for recording law school events (speaker series, guest speakers, workshops, and other presentations) for rebroadcast, to document events in the community (legal observer events, protests, law students in the field), etc. The law school IT department has graciously agreed to store them and manage the check-out process. According to Doug Edmonds, Asst. Dean for I.T., the cameras have been added to the law school's circulating equipment inventory. The link is https://my.law.unc.edu/community/technology/equipment/.

ANNOUNCING THE JAMES E. AND CAROLYN B. DAVIS SOCIETY
Jim Davis, a 1973 School of Law graduate of superb ability and character, died of cancer in 1980. His wife, Carolyn, an outstanding person in her own right, died of cancer in 1982. To perpetuate the memory of these two individuals, who possessed qualities of integrity, responsibility, leadership, and dedication, their friends and families have established the James E. and Carolyn B. Davis Society in their names. The Society allows for recognition of up to eight third year law students who have made significant contributions to the UNC School of Law.
The James E. and Carolyn B. Davis Society is intended to recognize third year students possessing both academic and personal excellence and a willingness to serve for the betterment of the School of Law and its faculty and students. Inductees will be recognized at Commencement and receive a framed certificate in honor of their selection. They will also be honored at a reception during Commencement weekend. A Davis Society plaque with each recipient's name is also displayed in the School's lobby.
To be considered for the James E. and Carolyn B. Davis Society, a third year student must be nominated, in writing, by another law student (any year), or faculty or staff member. Those making nominations should consider the qualities of leadership ability, extracurricular activities, character, and academic achievement. There is no official nomination form, but please include why you believe your nominee deserves to be included in the Davis Society. Nominees may later submit additional information about their extracurricular activities, honors, and academic achievement. You may drop off nominations to Dorsey Ballard's office (Room 5022) in the Student Services suite, or email her at (email@example.com).
THE DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS IS Friday, March 25 AT 5:00 P.M.

SBA will be hosting an open forum for students to come and get to know their SBA Representatives. All SBA Representatives will be present to hear from students on any issues they want to speak about and SBA will present some of its new happenings.

If your group is looking to secure funding throughout the year, there are alternatives outside of SBA. Two of these sources are Student Congress and the UNC Graduate and Professional Student Federation.
